Coulomb interaction in a quantum dot
One approximation is made to describe a M+1 electron many-body wavefunction by a M electron many-body wavefunction and a single electron wavefunction. Under this approximation, we have derived the Coulomb energy which relates the exciton energy Eexc in a quantum dot with the quasiparticle band gap (defined as the difference between the ionization energy and the electron affinity), and the Coulo...
متن کاملCoherent tunnelling through two quantum dots with Coulomb interaction
The coherent conductance and current is calculated through two quantum dots using the Hubbard model for a single level per spin. The occurrence of negative differential conductance is demonstrated. The Ohmic conductance is calculated for dots with equally spaced levels. Transport is determined by matching energy levels, even when they do not occur at the charge degeneracy points.
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics from Self-Interaction
We explore the possibility that zitterbewegung is the key to a complete understanding of the Dirac theory of electrons. We note that a literal interpretation of the zitterbewegung implies that the electron is the seat of an oscillating bound electromagnetic field similar to de Broglie’s pilot wave. This opens up new possibilities for explaining two major features of quantum mechanics as consequ...
متن کاملIncoherent tunnelling through two quantum dots with Coulomb interaction
The Ohmic conductance and current through two quantum dots in series is investigated for the case of incoherent tunnelling. A generalised master equation is employed to include the discrete nature of the energy levels. Regions of negative differential conductance can occur in the I-V characteristics. Transport is dominated by matching energy levels, even when they do not occur at the charge deg...
متن کاملLocal realizations of q-Oscillators in Quantum Mechanics
Representations of the quantum q-oscillator algebra are studied with particular attention to local Hamiltonian representations of the Schrödinger type. In contrast to the standard harmonic oscillators such systems exhibit a continuous spectrum. The general scheme of realization of the q-oscillator algebra on the space of wave functions for a one-dimensional Schrödinger Hamiltonian shows the exi...
